Snow, snow, and more snow
The snow Boston has been getting this month is absolutely crazy. In places it is several feet taller than I am, as you can see in one of the pictures below. I've heard that the National Guard has been shoveling out fire hydrants, and there have been states of emergency called to keep people safe and off the roads. Luckily I live within walking distance of work, and while I do leave 15 minutes early to account for scaling snow banks and unshoveled walks, a lot of my friends have been working from home when possible or otherwise just missing work because the T is so unreliable. The other day my roommate waited over an hour for a train in high gusts of wind and snow, but every train was so packed with desperate commuters by the time it reached our stop that boarding was impossible. It can be pretty exciting to weather these blizzards, but at the same time I think a lot of us are suffering from cabin fever. I have been itching to get out for some exercise and finally this evening ignored the state of emergency and did a run down to the Boston Commons and back up Comm Ave. I'm not sure if it was very helpful in terms of running, since I was mostly just trying to be safe while determining the best way to shield my face without getting frozen breath on my coat zipper, but it was at least a relief to get out of the house. And this coming week I am heading to my parents' house in upstate New York and then down to the city for a show, so barring any highway closures I should be away from the 6-foot-high snowbanks for a few days.
