Sketchbook 7: Upstate NY, 2012

Back home in New York State, I was curious how a familiar place would affect my relationship with observational drawing. I built a sketchbook, filled it, and reprinted it. The more I worked with familiar subjects, the more I allowed them to influence my creative decisions. It seems that the observational sketchbook is as much about the rumination and curiosity of the artist as it is about the subjects that they observe.

Please feel welcome to read my thesis on the project, The Observational Sketchbook: Strangeness in the Familiar.
