Emily & Derek portrait
This portrait is based on Emily and Derek’s engagement photos and was a gift for their wedding. I really loved working on all of the beads and the embroidery on Emily’s vyshyvanka. Plus, it’s always nice to paint people you know.

The wedding itself was beautiful and so touching. It was very intimate, with wintery decor, music from both Pride & Prejudice and Lord of the Rings (fitting given their engagement in New Zealand while on a LotR tour!), and celebrated our family’s Ukrainian heritage with details such as Ukie carols and a rushnyk ceremony. The dinner was vegetarian (yes!) and the reception was a private concert bringing together some of their favorite bands at a really neat music venue downtown.
