New website!

At last! About a year ago, I decided Weebly was no longer going to be a good fit longterm. Its options have largely stayed the same since I launched my online portfolio 14 years ago, and I was worried the longer I went without converting, the harder it would be to do so. I got some practice launching my first graphic novel chapter on Squarespace, and last semester while learning about usability in one of my information science courses, I started working on the transition.

Of course, there is no automated way to transfer content from Weebly to Squarespace, as opposed to transferring from Blogger or Wordpress. I also started learning HTML and CSS this semester, which has been helpful while putting the finishing touches on customization and making sure that the colors and such are accessible. I still need to add alt text to images (and there are probably a thousand images on this website between portfolio images and the blog), but the surface level is pretty much done. It took about four months, but I’m relieved that I am finally caught up and can start thinking about other things now.

There are some things I had to get used to on Squarespace, for instance not being able to stack multiple tab sub-groups in navigation. But it’s definitely a way better user experience having fewer tabs. It also forced me to trim down on the breadth of content on here. I didn’t carry over any marketing content because that was never meant to be the purpose of the site. It just creeped in after a while.

A couple of bonus pages that I carried over: I don’t have these in the navigation, but I do have pages for some album artwork I’ve worked on, and ceramics from college.
