Desk with a view
Since we moved in September 2020, I’ve had my desk in a narrow corner at the entrance of the bedroom, and my guinea pig’s palace at the double window. She sometimes would stand on the second level of her house (yes, it has multiple stories) and look outside while eating her lunch. But this winter it has been so cold and I worried about her catching a draft. I also was starting to associate sitting in the dark windowless corner as a punishment as opposed to a place I look forward spending time in. So out of curiosity I measured each fixture to see if I could do a furniture swap and then experimented with the setup. As it turns out, both fit well, so I’ve decided to stick with it.
So far it has been refreshing to work in natural light and not need my desk light on all the time. It’s also nice to be able to look out the window and observe the weather or see the neighbor out walking their dog, as opposed to staring at a blank wall. Ivy also seems content with her new set up. Not only is it probably warmer, but she is also several meters closer to the fridge, where all of her beloved vegetables come from, so she is able to hear the opening and closing of the fridge more easily and voice her demands for a snack. (Have I mentioned how delightful guinea pigs are? They are the best.)
