Honeymoon at Wings Neck Lighthouse
In November, Chris and I had our honeymoon at Wings Neck Lighthouse on Cape Cod. Decommissioned at the end of WWII, it is still owned by the descendants of one of the former lighthouse keepers and they offer short-term rentals of the property.
Holidays 2022
This year we spent Christmas with my parents in Upstate NY. It was Chris’s first time spending the holidays there and it was so much fun to introduce him to our family traditions.
Our wedding attire
I got the dress secondhand and it cost $240. I found it one afternoon on Poshmark and pulled the trigger in a matter of minutes…
Our wedding: family/friend contributions and Ukrainian details
Our wedding would not have been possible without the help of our family and friends!
Our wedding stationary and design
What good is an art degree if you can’t cobble together some passable stationary?
Our wedding decor
We landed on a library theme for the wedding (and rounded it out with some autumnal motifs), and in between working on the comic all summer, I assembled the following details…
Portrait for our wedding
This is the result of a marathon painting session, Saturday to Sunday!
Time tracking on the comic
I used a physical agenda all summer to track my progress day to day, getting down to how long it took to create a single panel, or compose a page, and the optimal break time.
Remembering Ivy
Whenever Ivy heard a noise that might be related to food, she perked up.
It could be the fridge door opening, or the crinkle of packaging, or even the sound of tablets rattling in a vitamin bottle.
She would pop out of her enclosure, ears alert, nose pointed upward to detect the scent of appetizing food, eyes eager for some confirmation of her suspicion, teeth chattering excitedly.
These would also be accompanied by the classic guinea pig sounds of anticipation: a hopeful "brweep! brweep! beweep!" and the metallic drumming sound of teeth gnawing on the bars of her enclosure.
Saying goodbye to our beloved Ivy
Yesterday was one of the hardest days I've ever had. Ivy has been my friend since 2016. She was there for me when Archie died in 2019, only months before the pandemic started. I never once felt lonely over two years of working from home and then studying from home while my partner was out working each day. She comforted me while he was ill and quarantining for weeks in another room, helped me adjust to moving from an apartment we had lived in for eight years, and celebrated with us when we got engaged…
Comics, de quervain’s, and guinea pigs
I ended up cranking out quite a few drawings in January despite getting covid, and that has continued for part of February. I’m really excited to have incorporated yet another color into the book’s palette: beryl green…
Desk with a view
Since we moved in September 2020, I’ve had my desk in a narrow corner at the entrance of the bedroom, and my guinea pig’s palace at the double window…
Thanksgiving 2021
Thanksgiving was so fun! My nephew Teddy has grown so much and it was such a treat to see how much Juliette appreciates her little brother.
Multipurpose desk
School started just about a month ago and has definitely been keeping me busy! I restructured my schedule a little bit so that I get some exercise and work on the comic first thing in the morning, and then work on school in the afternoon and try to break by the evening…
Teddy James
Welcome Theodore James Dunscombe! My nephew was born on September 9, 2021 (just a day shy of Grandpa Andy's 95th birthday) at 11:28am, 7 pounds 10 ounces and 19 inches…
Transition
My last day of work was on the 16th, and I just had my first week completely left to my own devices! I'm trying to get a lot of the important stuff out of the way first…
